Ando a ler #1

I had this book to read for months and I confess that I kept putting it off because I was even afraid of what I was going to learn from it. I don't know what's your first thought when someone asks you what skill you would like to have. Many people immediately imagine what it would be like to be able to fly, others to have the cloak of invisibility and infiltrate wherever they went without anyone seeing, like Harry Potter, but none of these wishes seems as enticing as knowing how to read someone's mind, to know what that person is truly thinking, at any given moment, regardless of what they say. This book gives us that. Because we communicate essentially with verbal language, but the body language, which we so often devalue, says much more than our mouth. Because we have learned over the years to control what we say, but nobody has ever taught us to control our gestures, facial expressions, actions, and all of these, much more true and authentic, end up letting go of the true message, thoughts, emotions and feelings that go inside us, even when the mouth says otherwise. Being aware of these gestures and expressions is the first step to better understanding others, and getting control of them is the best way to be effective in the message we want to get across when communicating with someone, because all these expressions are understood by the person with whom we communicate, even if unconsciously. This book is full of useful tips that can help us with job interviews, personal relationships, business, among others, all based on body language, not verbal. It's one of those books to read, internalize, read again, until you really understand everything. It's full of information, and I confess that it's difficult to assimilate everything (hence I think it should be read and reread), however I find myself already analyzing many facial expressions, even on TV programs, and friends, there are things that I can understand now!!! So, don't try to deceive me, because I'm going to catch you! Ahahahahahahah!! If after that I couldn't convince you to read the book, look, you don't even know what you're missing!

Lista do mês #5

1. filme.film TOC TOC | 2. série.serie The Crown | 3. podcast Money Bar | 4. documentário.documentary The Game Changers | 5. série.serie Peaky Blinders

AMEI!

Another list of the month !! And this time, taking into account the moment we are going through, the new general confinement, I decided to choose only films, series, documentaries and podcasts. Because time at home is again much more than desirable, and because it's a good way to spend it. So, following some suggestions here, I promise I don't give spoilers!

1 - It's a 2017 film but with a very current theme. It's certain and known that this pandemic has come to show even more the existence of diseases of a psychological nature, that the lack of social interaction and forced isolation can increase anxiety, depression, and even obsessive compulsive disorders, if we think about an early stage of the pandemic, in which we disinfect our hands after touching anything, it's easy to understand that it isn't dificult to be held hostage by an OCD. I'm admittedly petty in certain matters, mostly housekeeping, I have my quirks go. I usually joke and I even say that they are my TOCS, I don't stop living because of that, nor do I think it's a pathology, but that's how I look at them, without complications. That's why I ended up finding myself in this film, which in a fun way and without taboos portrays various disorders and how the authors deal with them and overcome them. It's above all a comedy, but it helps to make this type of disease uncomplicated. Really enjoyed.

2 - I like series and films that have a certain veracity, because more than pure entertainment allows us to learn something new, we always learn something more, so I knew I would love this serie. I confess that I was never ben a big fan of the British royal family, but I have to admit I enjoy it much more after watching this wonder of netflix. The same portrays the reign of Queen Elizabeth II over the years, since she was very young, until today, almost, not forgetting the family dramas, high and low moments of her "governance", crises and disputes with the first ministries of the moment , everything is there. I confess I loved it, both the characterization, as the photograph, the soundtrack, everything!! I liked it so much that I already want more seasons, yes, please!

3 - It's by far my favorite podcast and the one I most often recommended to friends and close people. And because? Because I also can always learn more and because it's a topic that, in my opinion, should be much more explored, both at school and in life in general. Bárbara Barroso is a specialist in personal finance and in the various episodes she addresses money-related issues, always in an uncomplicated and humorous way. You will be able to hear her talk about the emergency fund, investment guides, investor profiles, retirement savings plans, among many other topics, always with a view to helping us to better use our money. Because it's certain and known that money doesn't bring happiness, but it can help a lot, and that is almost the same thing!!

4 - It's a controversial documentary with a lot of negative reviews, but I must confess to you that I loved it. It speaks about the benefits of a vegan diet, protein and strength, and how this diet can perfectly suit anyone, even high-level athletes. Basically it demystifies that idea that in order to have a lot of muscle and strength we need meat and fish every day. I have some close people who have a predominantly vegetarian diet, and many people on social media who advocate this type of food. I usually say that I eat meat and fish for convenience, because it's very easy to reach the shelf of a supermarket and grab a piece of steak or tuna, but I'm fully aware that if it depends on me having to kill an animal to feed myself I wouldn't do it. I know that most of us were educated like this, to have meat and fish in our diet, and I also live closely with raising animals for consumption (chickens, ducks, rabbits, pigs, anyway...), but I love legumes and vegetables actually, and I do well without meat and fish. If this documentary serves us to question some habits, I think it's positive. Here at home we have made more vegan and vegetarian meals and I assure you that we had a good time and we have even been more creative!

5 - Another serie, also british, and another story inspired by real events. It depicts the day-to-day life of a gangster family, of gipsy ethnicity, who lived and controlled Birmingham after the Second World War. The story created by Steven Knight recounts the dramas, illegal businesses and all schemes of the members of the Shelby family, who are known for wearing suits and berets where they used razor blades to use as a weapon. All of this without leaving aside the women of the family, who in fact even have a relevant role if we consider the time portrayed, where they were often overlooked. They are presented to us as inspiring, powerful, determined and in addition to many of the most romantic moments in the serie. LOVED IT!

Black again

E isto leva-me a outras duas questões que me têm ocorrido com tanta frequência agora. A primeira faz lembrar aquele meme do “I love it, I could’t wear it”. “I’m bored in the house, and I’m in the house bored”? E isto leva-me já á segunda questão.

There are things that don't change. For more years that pass, rain or shine, I'll not be able to stop liking all black looks. And not even on purpose, the all black look I showed here before this one was photographed in this precise location. My hair took a brave cut, I had come from vacation and I was tanned, it was sunny and hot that day and this time no, by the way, it was almost all day without rain, and when I had time to photograph that boring rain started to fall. The rain “wets fools”, as they say. And what a fool I am, putting myself there at the time, subject to getting sick, all to photograph the look of the day, ahahahahah, priorities!! But I had already agreed, and the commitments are to keep, and besides it, being at home 6 days a week and spending most of the time dressed in tracksuits, pajamas or sports clothes, I have to take advantage when I was dressed up! This leads me to two other questions that have occurred to me so often now. The first is reminds me of that “I love it, I could’t wear it” meme. How much clothes do we have in the closet that we don't use? If in the day-to-day rush we have already forgotten so many pieces we have, now it's no different. As the daily bustle is not the reason for forgetting, we end up not wearing much of the clothes because in fact we are not even going out home. And yes, I like to see you beautiful and arranged on social media, but for me it still doesn't make sense to choose jeans to be at home when a sweatshirt is much more comfortable. It bothers me to open the closet and have so many beautiful and wonderful clothes there, but unused. Still, I can't control my consumer drive when I open websites with online sales. "I'm bored in the house, and I'm in the house bored"? Yes, that's probably the reason... I bought more than I should in these balances, better, more than I was initially thinking, but it was all conscious choices, because more and more I question and commit that if I buy, I will wear it to exhaustion! If don't it have to jump out! This brings me to the second question. If I started this text by saying that there are things that don't change, this is certainly not one of those things, and thankfully! I have seen, since the beginning of the pandemic, a crazy increase in second-hand luxury consumption. If this serves to leverage the market for buying/selling second-hand clothing in general, I have to tell you that I find it WONDERFUL. In fact, this is nothing new if we think in other types of products, such as cars, apartments and even furniture, it just needed to stop being prejudice in fashion, but it seems that we are going there. It doesn't make me confused at all to use “pre-loved” things. This is another one of those beautiful terms used in the middle to convince us to buy something used. Almost the same thing as calling the skin “vegan skin”, which is still plastic. Still, even if we are not fooled by more friendly terms, if it makes us less confused at the time of purchase, go ahead! I love all this circular economy that has been growing. Whether for environmental, monetary or purely ideological reasons. Everyone knows about themselves and has their reasons, but I love it. I actually have a used car, I live in a used house, I use a used cell phone, even the hotel beds where I lay down were used before I lay on them, as well as the fork that brings food to my mouth in any great restaurant, also fed many other mouths besides mine! And if we look at things well, even we have been "owned" by other people before, or do you want to make me believe that you never had any other loving companions besides the current ones?! Hmmm, can you understand where I want to go? I thnink it's now that I pick the clothes I want to sell and photograph it!!!

RESPECT

Hey, what you want? RESPECT!

Hey, what do you want? RESPECT!
Do you know that thing about letting our clothes speak for us? When I saw this sweater on last year's sales, I couldn't resist. First because my passion for phrases printed on clothes isn't from today, then because this set of words is more than just a phrase, it's the lyrics of a powerful song, sung by an equally powerful diva. I love this song, just to make it clear. And then it's a black sweater, and I hadn't none of this style in this color, and I was already feeling that it was necessary. I've used it countless times since I bought it but I don't know if it ever made as much sense as it does now. In the week that we returned to the second general confinement, a unique and exclusive consequence of our negligence in recent times, I couldn't want people to have more than respect. If the measures that the government imposes on us are the best? It's questionable, of course it is. But I think it's so necessary that we have empathy and respect for each other at this moment... Respect for those around us, family, friends, co-workers and mere strangers, for the leaders of the country, who may be right or wrong deserve our collaboration, and essentially respect for the health professionals who are enduring this endless avalanche for almost a year. I feel that many people have not yet realized that we live in community, and as such our actions are not inconsequential, and even if they don't directly harm us, they may be putting other people at risk. I'm sad, but it doesn't surprise me. Whoever thought that after this pandemic the world would be a better place has certainly reconsidered that opinion, unfortunately.

Lista do mês #4

1. brincos.earrings Salvatore Plata | 2. sobretudo.coat Mango | 3. porta-chaves.keychain Bimba Y Lola | 4. botas.boots Stradivarius | 5. decantador.decanter PVRA

Contem-me qual o vosso preferido!

Eis a questão!

Another month, almost halfway through, but I still have time to show you my list of January. I hope you like it and get inspired. Tell me which one is your favorite!

1 - I met this Spanish brand recently at a jewelry store where I went here close to home. I felt in love with earrings and more. The jewels of this brand are mostly discreet and delicate, always with lots of diamonds and shiny stones, and of course, as my father always says, "If there are diamonds, Joana likes them", it's true, I liked it and I already want it! If I need to, no, I don't need the name “accessory”, which describes these objects so often, it reminds us of the same usefulness, but I like it so much and I think it's so elegant that I will certainly include one of the pieces on my wish lists. In the meantime, go check out the website (Salvatore Plata) to get an idea of what I'm talking about, and trust me, the pieces are much more beautiful live and in color!

2 - A few years ago I drooled over a fur coat like that. It was dark brown and beautiful to die for, I even tried it on store and I loved looking like a bear when I put it on. It was huge, soft and warm as intended. My somatic artery made me miss the chance to have it. Notice that I wrote artery and did not vein, because I'm openly a lover of discounts and bargains, and it always makes me upset to realize that I bought something at full price that is later on sale 50% off. In the hope of finding the coat at half the price there, I ended up not buying it right away, and gosh, take it, don't be like that Jo… I never found it again, I looked everywhere and it was sold out everywhere. I still thought that the surplus of Spanish stores could reach the outlet store, but not even that. What a great consumer disgust! The following year the coat appeared again in store in a lighter tone, and obviously, from a lesson learned, I didn't let myself wait. I bought it and I love it with passion. So much so much, that in the last summer sales I bought another one exactly the same, white this time! Because yes, I am one of those who when likes wants to buy in more than one color. I noticed in one of the last trips to the mall that the coat is still on sale, in other colors, and I can't help but cling to it, it's so soft and fluffy. No, this time I didn't buy any more, nor am I going to buy, because the person loves it but knows that has to control himself, but since this Russian cold won't let us go, nothing better than taking advantage of the discounts and buying one of these copies, for keep us warm and not only, looks great and cool too!

He immediately referred me to the hot summer days, when on a southern beach we heard a husband asking his wife to gave him something from the “Bimba Bola” brand. It was one of those conversations that we accidentally caught but that in family we immediately tried to immortalize as a meme, or a privet joke, as you want to call it! Since then, my boyfriend has been threatening to offer me a keychain from “Bimba Bola”. And he did! Not this one, but another similar one, which is already in use and which I like a lot! If there are memories that keep us warm, those of summer certainly, and if it is so cold today and all we want is to return from the street to the comfort of a warm place, nothing better than to associate these warm memories with the accessory that brings us together to this keys that give us access to our world, our home.

But if you don't, long story short, I saw a lady in a waiting line so well dressed that I fell in love, and she had these boots on her feet. Of course, I immediately started measuring her and wondering how I could copy that style! The boots are from this collection, lucky me, and I really want to put my hands on them, or rather, my feet inside!! I don't have any boots like that, and I love this Bottega Veneta inspired trend. In fact, I looked in the shoe closet the other day and noticed that the track soles and the “thicker” shoes and boots are the majority there. This galoshes vibe pleases me too. They are not wellies, but they are close by and I like to think they will be excellent allies on rainy days! Buy or resist? That is the question!

And the other day, in one of the online newspapers that I read, I discovered this wonderful, portuguese brand, which works glass in a dazzling way. Amazing to think that these shapes literally come out of people like us through the breath. And also to realize that, taking into account the organic nature of the production, we will hardly have pieces that are the same, millimetrically equal, and this gives the object that degree of preciousness that I and many appreciate. This decanter is more than just a jug with a bottom to let the wine breathe. It is a work of art and decoration. Call me crazy, but my training in product design doesn't let me understand this object in any other way. I don't even drink that much wine but I already want to use it at any special dinner here at home, to expose it, let the nectar of the gods rest and apreciate, so beautiful!
